Celebration of our 90th Birthday and the Opening of our Art Exhibition 2019
Today the whole school had a very special assembly. Mrs Fletcher our principal welcomed the guests, caregivers, parents, visitors and children in Maori Language. After that Mrs Fletcher talked about the history of our school when it first started. She also mentioned Owairaka School was first started in 2019.
Mrs Fletcher invited the youngest child and the oldest child and Mrs Falevaai the longest service teacher in our school to come up and cut the cake. Then we all sang the Happy Birthday song.
Next Mrs Fletcher asked Sarah Hughes the artist to come up and talked about how she became an artist.
After that the principal handed Sarah the pair of scissors so she can cut the ribbon and declared the opening of the art exhibition.
When she cut the ribbon the Kapa Haka group and the whole school sang our school song Tamariki Owairaka with pride.
I felt very happy and excited because I was part of this celebration and it was our school's 90th birthday. Rita.
Great job Rita - you have captured our celebration well with your writing. I'm glad you felt happy and excited to be part of the celebration - I was very happy too!
